Carry On

One day, after delivering again the Church’s cleansing words, the confessor gave the penitent the direction to go into the Church and say the act of contrition. No sort of penance was given.

After the third time receiving the same seemingly incomplete conclusion to confession, the penitent could no longer withhold his question.

“Father, why do you not assign me a penance?”

The elder priest responded: “Isn’t merely to go on as you are, penance enough?”

God in Heaven, grant us the acceptance we need to allow You to heal us in Your time. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.
